Training course on Works Monitoring and Supervision

Two tailor-made training sessions of five days each, that took place in La Rochelle (France), from 18 to 22 May 2015 and from 11 to 15 July 2016 respectively, for 6 engineers and technicians from “Société de Patrimoine des Eaux du Niger” (State concessionary company in charge of urban hydraulics) on “technical monitoring and supervision of works”.

The expected outcome of this training course was the control of the tools for organising and managing worksites and knowledge of the works monitoring and works quality control methods. The topics dealt with were as follows:

Topic 1 – Actors’ roles

  • Stakeholders: owners, project managers and contractors.
  • Contracts.
  • Relationships between the parties.

Topic 2 – Checks and approvals before works

  • Start of the works.
  • Verification of the contractor’s means and resources.
  • Contractor’s schedule.
  • Technical checks.
  • Approvals of materials.

Topic 3 - Technical works supervision

  • Supervising earthworks and checking foundations.
  • Supervising excavations and the laying of pipes.
  • Checking concrete or masonry structures.
  • Checks specific to road structures (drainage, ducts and box-culverts) and buildings (roofing, coating, door and window frames, painting, etc.).

Topic 4 – Operations at the end of works (acceptance)

  • Provisional acceptance.
  • As-built drawings.
  • Final acceptance.
  • Works final report.
