Tailor-made training on "Measuring the impacts of programmes and projects"

The objective of this training session was to master the main concepts of assessing programmes and projects and to be able to perform or back an impact assessment. The following topics were addressed:

Topic 1 - Measuring the impact of a programme or project

  • Results, effects, impacts: three different concepts.
  • Assessing the impacts of an action:
    • establishing the reference situation;
    • identifying significant and lasting changes;
    • defining a change analysis grid;
    • drawing up reliable and measurable impact indicators.
  • Determining requirements in terms of information: existing data and data to be gathered.
  • Determining the methods of gathering additional data.
  • Defining and implementing an impact survey (defining the sampling, preparing the questionnaire, gathering data, recruiting and managing investigators, etc.).

Topic 2 - Processing and analysing data and formulating recommendations

  • Data coding and entry.
  • Inspecting the quality of the data.
  • Descriptive statistical tools.
  • Multivariate analysis of survey data.
  • Drawing up the impact analysis report and its recommendations.
  • Using impact analyses to capitalise on and design new programmes and projects.

The Forhom Institute was responsible for preparing and organising the educational aspects of this two week-long training session; it was facilitated by trainers specialising in impact assessments.

The aim of this training session was to be highly operational so as to cater, as much as possible, to the participants' daily concerns and to meet their expectations within the framework of their tasks.
