As part of the West African Coastal Area Resilience Investment Project (WACA ResIP), the International Development Association (IDA) has signed a financing agreement with the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) to implement the regional integration component (Component 1) of the project, which aims to strengthen and promote regional integration in the integrated management of the West African coast.
The WACA ResIP project has 3 components in each of the 6 countries (Mauritania, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Sao Tomé and Principe): a combination of technical support aimed at strengthening national policies and institutions (Component 2), a physical and social investment component (Component 3) and a Component 4 dedicated to national coordination (project management).
The WACA ResIP aims to strengthen the resilience of communities and targeted areas along the West African coast by improving the absorption, adaptation and transformation capacities of the six beneficiary countries and reducing the common risks (erosion, flooding and coastal pollution) to which they are exposed, whether of natural or man-made origin, whether similar for all or most of the countries or of a cross-border nature.
