"Railway signalling" training course

One-day training course on railway signalling.The teaching objectives are as follows:At the end of the course, participants are be able to:

  • Identify the various stages of a signalling project: players, deliverables, input data, etc.
  • Understand the interfaces between signalling and the other components of the system
  • Acquire the methods and tools needed to understand a signalling programme

The main points covered during the course are as follows:

  • Railway risks: nose-to-nose, slinging, overtaking, derailment, obstacles, runaways, etc.
  • Route control: the concept of interlocking, the concept of route, interlocking families
  • Switches and crossings: lateral signalling, train detection, switch and crossings management
  • Operating systems: BAL, BAPR, BM, unbundling, IPCS
  • Safety interlockings: equipment levels, mechanical stations, relay stations, computer stations
  • Automatic train control: signalling system architecture, automatic train stopping devices, speed control by beacon, track-machine transmission, ERTMS levels 1, 2 and 3
  • The signalling phases of a railway project: preliminary studies, pre-project, project, execution studies, assistance with the awarding of works, management of the execution of works, tests, acceptance of equipment and works.
