Environmental Assessment: Multi-criterion Analyses and Public Inquiry Procedures

Forhom by Egis was entrusted with preparing and facilitating a one-week training session in Port-Gentil for executives from the company Maurel & Prom (an oil operator specialising in the production of hydrocarbons) on environmental assessment and, more precisely, multi-criterion analyses and public inquiry procedures.

The objectives of the training session were as follows:

• Identifying and analysing the issues of environmental assessments.
• Understanding and choosing a multi-criterion analysis tool for evaluating the sustainable development of a project.
• Setting up the procedural rules and tools to be used for carrying out a public inquiry.

The three topics that were dealt with and their contents are as follows:

• Assessment in relation to sustainable development

Topic 2 - Multi-criterion analyses: a tool for analysing sustainable development

• Basic objectives
• Choice of an assessment tool by AMC
• The project assessment techniques based on sustainable development

Topic 3 - Public inquiry procedures

• Definitions: public inquiries, communication, consultation, information and participation
• Participation and consultation practices
• Tools for the facilitation of public debates and consultation workshops
