Distance Training on Bridge Stability Studies

A distance-training workshop on bridge stability studies took place via videoconference between the premises of the Distance Education Centre of Côte d’Ivoire in Abidjan and of the Forhom Institute’s training centre in Guyancourt (France), from 29 May to 1st July 2017.

This workshop, organised by the Forhom Institute, was facilitated by expert teams from Egis Structures et Environnement – Egis JMI. The participants were six engineers from BNETD-DIT (National Office of Technical and Development Studies – DIT), an engineer from Arc Ingénierie, and an engineer from Terrabo Ingénierie.

The workshop lasted four days and dealt with the following programmed topics:

  • Reminder of generalities on bridges.
  • Calculation of bridge bearings.
  • Calculation of stresses in a bridge deck.

The training course was based on:

  • methodological presentations and presentation of concrete cases facilitated by the trainers (in the morning);

case studies in the form of group exercises to be done by the participants (in the afternoon). These exercises were followed by feedback with corrections and comments from the trainers, the next day.
