Two training workshops on contract management during the course of a project

Two training workshops on contract management during the course of a project were held in March 2018 in Dakar.

These workshops, organised by the Forhom Institute and funded by Eiffage, were facilitated by an expert in management and infrastructure project management. This training course was designed for EIFFAGE Sénégal employees: Project Managers (Engineers), Site Managers and Technicians in charge of supervising and executing works contracts of all types: road and motorway infrastructure, buildings, civil engineering works (dikes), reinforcement and creation of power lines, photovoltaic power station.

Supervising and managing construction sites require a good management of communication and negotiations throughout the construction process. The company's image, the meeting of deadlines and the profitability of the project are often linked to this aspect.

The objectives of the training course were to:

  • be able to represent EIFFAGE Sénégal on construction sites;
  • know how to manage relations with the actors (owner, project manager, local residents, subcontractors, team, etc.) and to take into account the contractual implications
  • be able to maintain good relationships on and around the construction site in order to preserve the margin throughout the project.

This training course was based on the following topics:

  • Topic 1 – Characteristics of negotiation in project mode • Defining what a negotiation is • Identifying the actors of the project and the corresponding areas of negotiation • Understanding what is negotiable
  • Topic 2 – Becoming familiar with the basis of negotiation within the project • Preparing your negotiation • Consulting for your negotiation • Conducting your negotiation and finalizing the contract • Following up on your negotiation
  • Topic 3 – Understanding the behavioural dimension of negotiation and applying it • Establishing a relationship with the other party and managing stress • Resolving a conflict • Negotiating as a team

  • Development of training materials and case studies, followed by facilitation of the 2 sessions
