Training of team leaders in the building and construction professions

The aim of this project is to enable qualified workers to progress within the company and to develop towards team leader responsibilities.

This programme involves four professions:

  • Form setter team leader
  • Steel fixer team leader
  • Transport logistician team leader
  • Heavy vehicle driver

The project has three objectives:

  • Train, build the capacities and strengthen the know-how of the local workforce in order to contribute to the social and economic development of Equatorial Guinea.
  • Raise the awareness and enhance the training of the teams in all aspects related to safety. These aspects are to be addressed in all of the training modules provided.
  • Progressively enable national employees to aim for positions which are at present entrusted to employees from abroad (Cameroon, Chile, Philippines, etc.).

This project is based on three stages:

Prior to the project:

  • The company has identified the professions and key skills of the programme.
  • For each profession, 3 to 6 "high potential" employees are identified.
  • The programme is offered to each selected employee who voluntarily commits his/herself to follow all of the sessions that have been offered to him/her.

Preparation and facilitation of the training courses:

  • The Forhom Institute prepares a training programme on the basis of the job profiles for each profession.
  • The programme is adapted in accordance with the recommendations of the company's management and operational executives.
  • Each programme begins with a diagnosis of the professional practices and an analysis of the students' skills. Consequently, each training session's programme is specifically tailored.
  • Technical training sessions are offered for each profession (depending on the complexity, one to four modules each lasting for one week are provided in Equatorial Guinea).

Assessment and evaluation of the training courses:

  • At the beginning of each assignment, the trainers review the previous stages and consequently adapt the module's content.
  • At the end of the training session, a test is organised by the trainer which allows for the skills acquired to be validated, in other words the employee's ability to autonomously implement the techniques and tools taught.
  • The Forhom Institute draws up a proposal of candidates to perform the duties of team leader at the end of all of the training activities.
