Training: “Contract Management: Overseeing Construction Contracts During the Contract Execution Phase”

A two-day training course on ‘Contract Management’ for project managers at the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille (GPMM). The course was structured around the following topics:

The Contract Management approach:

  • What is Contract Management and why has it become essential today?
  • Contract Management in support of project management and vice versa,
  • Best practices in Contract Management for efficient project support, from the client’s perspective
  • How to carry out a SWOT analysis of your project to draft your contract effectively?

Securing the project contractually

  • How to use Contract Management from the ACT phase onwards to secure the project?
  • How do companies open the claims file as early as the tender documents stage?
  • The different types of remuneration and how to optimise risk costs?
  • Contract management tools (the importance of notifications, maintaining the project history, contractual rigour, using the schedule as a contract management tool, managing penalties, etc.).
  • Focus on traceability
  • How to correctly apply the CCAG Travaux and the key points to be aware of

Claims management

  • Distinguishing between claims and variations, and their implications for the relationship with contractors;
  • Why prioritise handling claims during the course of the project rather than waiting until the final account (DGD)?
